Can I put hot pots & pans on my counter?

No, although concrete is heat-resistant it can still be subject to thermal shock if a red-hot object is placed directly on it. The biggest concern with heat is that it can damage the protective sealant on the concrete leaving it vulnerable to scratches and stains. Trivets can be integrated into a countertop to create a safe spot to put hot pots and pans.

Can I cut directly on the counter?

No, like most counters cutting on the counter surface is not recommended as it will compromise the sealant and leave the surface vulnerable to stains and scratches. Instead, use a cutting board or consider an integrated butchers block.

Can concrete be used for outdoor application?

Yes. Concrete is ideal for outdoor application including countertops, water features, seating, and decorative details.

What are the advantages of concrete countertops over marble or granite?

Can the concrete ever crack?

Yes, hairline cracks may appear but do not affect the structural integrity of the piece. Hairline cracks are an inherent characteristic of concrete, and although they may be patched they are typically left visible since they lend character to the look of the piece.

Can concrete stain?

All of the pieces that leave the shop are treated with a sealant making the concrete water and stain resistant. Countertops are additionally sealed with a layer of food grade Beeswax, allowing for some extra time when cleaning up spills. When caring for you piece watch out for acids such as red wine, vinegar, and lemon juice which can etch the surface of your piece.
